I’ve long searched for numbers that tell me how much money the record labels spend on artists. It’s always been my main reason why I think that the labels still have a place in this ”new” music business, where everyone can record and spread their own music. But still most artists wants to have a record label. It’s quite obvious why, when you look at these numbers. The fact is that the record labels invest $4.5 Billion annually in A&R and Marketing for their artists. There you go.
While recording has become, at least a bit, less expensive, developing a career and cutting through ”the noise” is still expensive. And I really can’t see that that will ever change as that noise increases for every day.
